Blooms in late August. Hibiscus syriacus, also known as rose of Sharon (of shrub Althea), this hardy, deciduous flowering shrub is valued for showy flowers blooming from midsummer into autumn. Despite the species name syriacus, it is native to East Asia—not Syria.
