This beautiful evergreen with a uniformly pyramidal shape and strong
branching habit is a popular choice for Christmas trees. Its branches
turn slightly upward, giving the tree a dense and compact form. The
slightly fragrant, short, flat needles are soft, dark green on the
upper surface and blue green on the under side. Indoors, the tree has
good needle retention.

The
butt on this tree is often
4 inches or more in diameter on a 6- to 8-foot tree. A heavy-duty tree
stand is necessary to support the tree.
After the Christmas holiday, the tree can be staked outdoors and used
as a bird feeder. |
Cultivation
Seedling trees are planted primarily in higher elevations where nights
are relatively cool. The trees suffer during hot, dry weather. Sunny
locations with moist, well-drained soil at elevations above 2,000 feet
are ideal.
Fraser fir seedlings usually reach a harvest height of 6 to 8 feet in
about 20 years.
