The annual championship series of Major League Baseball in the United States and Canada, the World Series concludes a postseason that includes playoffs between divisional champions.
First played in 1903, the World Series championship is determined through a best-of-seven playoff and is a contest between the champions of baseball's National League and American League.
Often referred to as the "Fall Classic", the World Series has been played every year since 1903 except in 1904, when the National League champion New York San Francisco declined to play the American League champion, the Boston Americans. It was also canceled in 1994 due to a strike.
