Under a Full Moon ~ Man in the Moon A full moon
occurs when the Sun and the Moon are on opposite sides of the Earth at
the same time. Occurring on a 29.53-day cycle, the full lunar phase in
each month is known by many different names depending on the culture or
religion.
The late autumn full moon in December is known as the Oak Moon or Cold Moon. It is also commonly known as the Frost Moon, Winter Moon, Long Night's Moon or the Moon Before Yule. Buddhists refer to the December full moon as nduvap Poya while Hindus call it Margashirsha Poornima. In 2011, the December full moon will occur at 9:38 am (EST) on Saturday the 10th.
