New York City Marathon


This annual marathon is the largest in the world by number of participants, with 51,394 finishers in 2016 and 98,247 applications for the 2017 race. Held annually on the first Sunday in November, it runs through the five boroughs of New York City.

The New York City Marathon starts at the foot of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in Staten Island and finishes, 26.2 miles later, is on West Drive in Central Park, near Tavern on the Green.

The course record time for male runners was set by Geoffrey Mutai (2:05:06) in 2011. The course record time for female runners was set by Margaret Okayo (2:22:31) in 2003.
