The full moon in May is often referred to as the Milk Moon.

This full moon was known as the Flower Moon by Algonquian Indians of North America,

It has also been dubbed theCorn Planting Moon, Corn Moon, Hare's Moon.

Buddhists refer to the May full moon as Buddha Poornima, while Hindus call it Vesak Poya.

Super Moon

The 2012 Milk Moon will be at perigee, or the closest point to the Earth in its orbit, making it as much as 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons in 2012.

Depending on the community, celebrations may occur in the weeks before or after the first full moon in May.

Under a Full Moon

The 2012 Milk Moon occurs at 11:35 p.m. EST on May 6. The Moon is at perigee, or nearest approach to Earth only a half hour before it becomes full; this will result in abnormally high tides.
