Cold Heat

Makers of the Cold Heat Soldering Tool claim it will cool down from 800 degrees of metal-melting heat to cool-to-the-touch in seconds.  Does It Really Do That? asked reporter Liz Crenshaw, who tested it out in a Consumer Watch report for NBC News4 in Washington, D.C.

Collecting Farm Toys
Once sold to promote the use of tractors, farm toys are popular collectibles for young and old alike.  John Byrd, a Mississippi State University Extension Service weed specialist and life-long collector , sees farm toys as an important link to agriculture's heritage. "Companies started selling farm toys as tractors began to replace animals as the primary source of power on the farm. Many tractor manufacturers contracted with toy producers to create toy models of their main tractors and implements."  Some people collect only tractors, while others collect tractors as well as implements.  Many collectors rely on farm equipment dealers to obtain their toys, while others use the Internet, mail order or attend farm toy shows to find new additions for their collections.

Ozone Air Cleaners
Several types of AIR filters are available on the market. Consumers should beware, however, of the ozone air cleaner. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the American Lung Association, ozone air cleaners are not recommended for household use. The best choice for cleansing smoke particulates from your home's air is a "HEPA" filter. They are widely available at hardware stores, drug stores or discount stores. HEPA stands for "High Efficiency Particulate Air." An electronic air cleaner, also referred to as an electrostatic precipitator, is also appropriate for removing smoke from your home's air. For more information on ozone cleaners check out this EPA website: www.epa.gov/iaq/pubs/ozonegen.html. (By Michael P. Vogel, MSU Extension Family Housing Specialist)
