The Des Moines County Soil and Water Conservation
District was formed in 1946. Des Moines County is located in
southeast Iowa along the mighty Mississippi River.The District
is governed by five District Commissioners who are elected at general
elections. The District Commissioners have many
responsibilities. These responsibilities range from attending
monthly meetings to managing all funds belonging to the District to
developing and carrying out an annual plan of work. Along
with the business aspect of these responsibilities, Commissioners also
get involved in education, awards, and community service by offering
scholarships, sponsoring a poster contest, serving on local committees,
sponsoring farmer and teacher award programs, and marketing activities
such as a fair booth.
