April 4, for instance, is linked to the Festival of Cybele and the Roman mother goddess, Magna Mater, an arbiter of moral and ethical dilemmas.

Chandra Alexandre, Ph.D., a doctor of ministry, suggests the following Megalesian divination:

"Take a bowl of water and drop three leaves onto the surface, having formulated a question for which a yes/no response will be useful. Three leaves face us is a yes. Two leaves up and one down in a yes with qualifications.Three leaves face down is no. Two leaves down and one up is a no with qualifications.

"To ascertain the meaning or the nature of the qualifications, crumble the leaves into the water, let them settle, and drain the bowl. Look for your fullest answer in the images you find left in the remaining leaves."

Moon Signs

"The moon's sign is a traditional consideration for astrologers. The moon continuously moves through each sign of the zodiac, from Aries to Pisces. The moon influences the sign it inhabits, creating different energies that affect our daily lives."

What is the effect of the Moon in Taurus? Things begun now do last, tend to increase in value, and become hard to alter. Brings out an appreciation for beauty and sensory experience.

Moon Void-of-Course Tables included in this volume track the course of the moon through the zodiac, noting the date and time of its last aspect and when it enters a new sign.

Vestalia is an ancient festival of the virgin Roman goddess of hearth and home, Vesta (the Greek Hestia), celebrated June 7 - 15 each year. The curtained inner sanctum of Vesta's temple in Rome was opened during this week for barefoot women to offer sacrifices.

Vesta, goddess of the hearth and home New England witch and librarian Jennet Silver suggests commemorating Vestalia with a candle representing your hearth.

"This works best with a pillar, but any candle will do. On the candle, carve symbols of a safe and welcoming home, and, if you wish, anoint it with oils that fit your idea of a welcoming home (orange for good cheer, cinnamon and nutmeg for prosperity, rosemary and lavender for health and balance).

"Each time you tend your home by doing chores, light the candle and repeat a simple blessing for your home, such as:

Here is hearth, here is home. Blessings on all within.

"When you're done, extinguish the candle, letting the smoke carry the blessing through your home."
