Chocolate Popcorn Balls

Preset the oven to 200 degrees.

Place the popcorn in a large heat proof bowl and place in the oven to keep warm.

Put  chocolate in a heavy saucepan  over low heat.
Stirring constantly, heat the chocolate for 5 minutes or until completely melted.

Stir in sugar and corn syrup until blended.

Add water and stir to blend.

Adjust heat to medium cook until mixture comes to a steady boil, stirring constantly.

Continue cooking until a candy thermometer reaches 250 degrees.

Remove popcorn from oven and pour chocolate mixture over the popcorn, stirring until popcorn is evenly coated.

When mixture cools enough to handle, form it into 3 inch balls. Dip hands in a bowl of ice water as you form the balls.

Place the balls on a wire rack to cool.

Makes 1 dozen.

  * 4 quarts popped popcorn
   * 2 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate
